Über Mich

Hallo lieber Leser,
mein Name ist Bernd Kochanowski. Ich bin promovierter Mikrobiologe. Ich bin aber auch, wie mein “webname” andeutet Krimileser. Überwiegend lese ich englischsprachige Krimis. Es gibt da einige Autoren, die ich aufregend, spannend … lesenswert finde und ich möchte auf diesem Wege die Informationen, die ich über diese Autoren habe, mit Anderen teilen. Vielleicht ist da der ein oder andere Leser, der sich auch für englischsprachige Bücher interessiert.
Ich interessiere mich aber auch für das Umfeld, in dem die Krimis entstehen. Also schreibe ich auch immer wieder über Informationen aus diesem sozialen, politischen und wirtschaftlichen Umfeld.
Für Informationen und Hinweise bin ich natürlich immer dankbar.

I just spotted your analysis of my Femme Fatales essay posted on Al Guthrie’s Noir Originals and wanted to thank you for the nice things you said. Also to respond to a couple of your thoughts. You’re right that I haven’t distinguished between noir and hardboiled in this piece. There were two reasons for this. The first was to try and limit the wordcount. The second was that I felt that Al’s website tends to bunch them both together anyway, so I was happy to stick with that, as it was much easier.
Also, I like the fact that you picked up on my not exploring aspects of homosexuality very deeply in the piece. I began to touch upon this theme, and then decided again that it was just too big and deserves a whole article to itself. One that I might yet get round to writing if I can ever find the time.
Tell me, do you have any other thoughts that you might have added to the piece if you were writing it yourself?
Lastly, I should add that I will shortly be moving away from Berlin to relocate in the UK. I’m sad to leave but it will be good for me too, and I’m quite excited to be going back.
Anyway, thanks for a generous mention and a great-looking site. Here’s to you keeping up the good work.

thank you for your kind words. Let’s say that noir and hardboiled work under the same spell, so you could treat them as one.
I always thought that in spite of all the tough men in Ellroy’s oeuvre the really (psychological) strong persons are females. There seems to be a a growing list of books written by both male and female authors with heroins as the true winners. And there are even some female authors who adopt the format and make something new - and not just pastiches like Abbott’s “Queenpin” (which I didn’t like) but books like Vicki Hendricks brilliant “Cruel Poetry”.
So I wish you a good start in UK.
